LETTERS – Do red lights apply to cyclists?

There has been a lot written in your newspaper recently about cyclists using lights to ensure they are visible to traffic.

Well I would like to make cyclists aware of obeying traffic lights.

On Wednesday, January 28, I was sitting on my mobility scooter, waiting to cross the road at the traffic lights on Winsover Road in Spalding.

The lights turned red for the traffic and the green man showed it was safe for me to cross.

I was about half way across the road when two youths on cycles rode across in front of me, clearly ignoring the red traffic lights. I almost hit them. They carried on regardless.

Am I wrong in assuming that cyclists should obey traffic lights, or are they exempt? If I had hit them they could have been seriously injured. Who would have been at fault?
