LETTERS – Did you not wear your badge?

I write with regard to the letter from Gill Allen (30/6/22), which appears to berate the recent strike action(s) by various workers and having particular reference to the miners’ strike of the 1980s.

It is stated how, as a serving police officer at the time, they had to send officers to help other forces, with the inference being that this caused hardship.

I wish to ask the question of Gill Allen, did you not wear your ASPOM lapel badge with pride?

I knew my father, even though “of rank” at the time, did so, along with many colleagues.

I, too, as a young man in the prison service in London, and being seconded on detached duty to “man” police cells, also wore mine, again along with several other colleagues.

So, it wasn’t all bad, really, was it Gill Allen?
