If I may put Steve and Wendy Bushell’s minds at rest: back in May there was an exhibition, well advertised, including in The Voice, in The Woodlands Hotel, explaining how the proposed Pinchbeck to Spalding cycleway will work.
The officers from Lincolnshire Highways did a good job, answering all manner of questions and even agreeing to re-think some details.
Even if you missed the exhibition, I’m sure they will send you the plans if you request.
The plan is that cyclists share the roadway, not the pavement, on that stretch.
Originally, late last century, there was a proposal to make the path on the western side a shared one for cyclists and pedestrians.
We at PEDALS sent negative comments about this, and the idea was dismissed and has never been revived.
We are pleased that something is being done that could improve safety for cyclists and even encourage people to exercise their choice of means of transport.
Choosing to cycle – for those who can – will help to mitigate the inevitable traffic jams that will increase as the many new homes are occupied, as well as improving health and fitness.
We also stand up for the needs of pedestrians; after all, we are all pedestrians at times.
Everyone is free to contact us on Facebook if we can help.
