LETTERS – Caring for Carers has closed

Sadly Long Sutton Outreach – Caring for Carers has closed.

There was an incident at the last meeting when two dogs bounded into the group and upset many present.

People with dementia are vulnerable and so are their carers who are usually elderly. One man was scratched by a dog, which can be very serious for anyone on blood thinning medicine.

This was the last straw for chair Dee Leech who had gone to great lengths to keep the group going.

Dee did a wonderful job during the pandemic and deserves credit for her hard work.

The club offered a day’s relaxation once a month for anyone suffering brain damage through stroke or injury or simply needing company, especially carers and dementia patients at home. Free admission, tea or coffee with biscuits every third Thursday, lunch by arrangement and raffles were always on offer.

Some members had suffered strokes which affected their speech so socialising was difficult; they found the friendly atmosphere at LSO helped a great deal.

Anyone willing to take on reviving the club please contact me on 01406 426508.
