LETTERS – Can anyone explain?

In The Voice of May 6 there is an article about “homes purchased”.

It says that “SHDC has ratified the purchase of affordable homes for several of its departments. Its cabinet last week voted through purchasing eight homes in Station Road, Surfleet………for the housing revenue account”.

Please can someone explain to me what this means in layman’s terms? To which eight homes does it refer? What is actually going to happen to them? Are they privately owned at present?

I always long to ask if the words “affordable housing” mean that all the others are unaffordable and, while I’m wondering about words used to describe houses, just exactly what is an “executive home” – does it have a certain amount of pretentiousness about it?
