LETTERS – Buy the Bridge Hotel

It was good to see several hundred people from Sutton Bridge and surrounding area coming together at a meeting organised by Sir John Hayes in Sutton Bridge to show solidarity in protest of the Bridge Hotel possibly housing 20/30 asylum seekers.

South Holland District Council leaders Nick Worth and Tracy Carter were also in attendance and would have heard at first hand the hundreds of local residents strong views against such a proposal.

A perfect answer to this issue would be for SHDC to try and purchase the newly refurbished 15 unit Bridge Hotel property for renting out to local South Holland people.

SHDC has a stand-alone ring-fenced social housing company that presently own near 4,000 council homes for rent in South Holland and have bought new homes every year for the last ten years or more, so Messrs Worth and Carter here’s a chance to prove your leadership, loyalty and support to an area of South Holland that is now seeking help and at the same time making a sound investment of tax payers’ money.

Only a few years ago SHDC attended an auction with a view to buying the Bridge Hotel to convert it into social rented housing units, but the were unsuccessful.

So buy baby buy and put an end to the fear and anxiety of Sutton Bridge and surrounding area residents.
