LETTERS – Bin an issue with garden

Regarding the garden waste scheme at SHDC, I’ve always been pleased with the service but unfortunately that all changed on June 19.

I was waiting behind one of the bin lorries on The Parkway when I witnessed an operator sling a bin on the machinery.

The bin didn’t fix on to both sides and ended up being ripped open.

This was not the usual crew for this area as they are usually very careful.

Later on, when I brought my bin in, on Horse Fayre Fields, my bin was also split open.

I emailed the council and received a reply telling me to leave the bin out and it would be replaced as soon as possible.

They also said not to block the pavement, so I left it on my driveway. I have to say that it was a nuisance as I had to squeeze past it with my car and mobility scooter, which I’m having to use as I’m waiting for a hip replacement.

The new bin finally arrived on July 3, two weeks later!

The damaged bin wasn’t taken away and is still on my driveway today (July 11).

I have repeatedly asked when it will be collected as I’m happy to take it into my garden and put it back out when it’s due to be collected but nobody can tell me when it will be, so it’s still on my driveway!

Finally, yesterday, I was told via email that it would be collected by the end of the week.

Which week they’re talking about I’ve no idea.

Whoever deals with the logistics needs a refresher course!
