Still in shock.
So we went to the Spalding lighting of the jubilee beacon.
When we arrived all the gates to Ayscoughfee Gardens were closed, so we proceeded to the front entrance that was fully lit.
We were greeted by a lady with a clipboard who asked: “Are you on the list?”
We asked: “What list?”
Obviously we weren’t on the list so she said the ordinary people would be let in later at 9.15pm.
A lot of ordinary people looked bemused as to why they couldn’t get in.
When the gates finally opened a small area on the old bowling green was sectioned off for the event.
The beacon was lit after a really small speech and the sound man played a song followed by two verses of the National Anthem and the night was all over.
All the ordinary folk left.
It was a big let down to be honest.
The only saving grace for me was a lovely man that came over and chatted and made a few jokes.
It turns out he was Coun Chris Brewis. So if you read this, thank you Chris Brewis for making my evening a little less dull, you are a star.
From one of the ordinary folk.
