LETTERS – Asphalt plant is refused

No doubt you will have heard the news that Franklin Bros Appeal for the proposed asphalt plant in Sutton Bridge has been dismissed by the Planning Inspector – meaning that the development will not be allowed to proceed.

I should imagine many of you breathed a sigh of relief when you heard the news, as I did.

A sigh of relief filled with clean air and the absence of noxious smells and noise from industrial processes at all times of the night and day.

The news was like a very welcome early Christmas present.

This is great news on many fronts and is a victory for the little people that gave the lion its roar.

Without your letters, attendance at the public meetings and the support of our local MP Sir John Hayes this outcome would not have been possible.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your support.

The other good news is that the refusal of the asphalt plant at this location – following the defeat of the proposed incinerator at the High Court back in 2014 – sends a clear message to developers: “Don’t try and dump your unwanted developments on our doorstep”.

As a community we have demonstrated what we can achieve together when we are united – long may it continue.
