LETTER: Water taxi is very popular

A. Dear writes (Spalding Voice November 26) that SHDC is blinkered and that he/she didn’t even know Spalding had a town centre manager. Also, that the water taxi is a ‘ridiculous service’. Those comments lead me to think that they may be the blinkered ones.
Most retailers around at the time appreciated having somebody dedicated and committed to the promotion and improvement of the town centre, and not diverted into other doing other areas of council work and priorities.
The fact the water taxi, designed to create a novel connection between Spalding and Springfields, is still going strong, demonstrates that it is far from ‘ridiculous’.
It continues to be a very popular way to enjoy our wonderful river and the lovely views it offers to those who take the trip.
I thank Broadgate Homes for their invaluable support of this much enjoyed attraction.
I can assure A Dear and other readers, that neither of these were the less than successful spends referred to and only in passing and then given far too many column inches.
With such passionate views, I trust the writer will be removing their blinkers and actively participating in public survey about to be carried out by the Spalding town centre improvement plan group.
