LETTER: Town is losing its appeal

I am writing following your excellent front page this week highlighting the growing public concern over off-licences and foreign food shops.

It is high time the local council listened to the long held beliefs that this town is losing appeal because of the spread of tacky convenience stores and takeaways.

Winsover Road is rapidly becoming the fag-end of Spalding as councillors in an overdose of political correctness grant licences to business owners who have previously fallen foul of the law (and then blame their workers) to open up yet another food shop.

If the council and Town Centre Manager have any vision for the future then they must start listening to the public.

South Holland was recently criticised for failing to help different cultures integrate but what we do have in abundance is tolerance.

This will evaporate when local residents feel the town is being taken over and a different culture imposed on them. Winsover Road is a mess.

I hope The Voice starts a public crusade to shake the council from its apathy so that it generates a proper town plan to make this an attractive place to live for all its citizens.
