Is there a need to celebrate Christmas in this 21st century?
We are told by statisticians that 40 per cent of the population claim not to believe in Christianity or the message of the Bible.
A virgin birth in this day and age is impossible to believe.
So did the birth of Jesus really happen in the way the Bible tells us, or at all?
The time of this event, if it did happen, is in dispute by many who claim to be Christians as well as non-believers.
Does this matter, is a date for this celebration an important issue?
We hear of people divided by the preparation of Christmas.
There have even been family break-ups because of the pressures put on them to buy what they can’t afford.
We see advertisements by commercial businesses that encourage families to spend what they can’t afford.
We know that many will be in debt for many months after the period has past.
How many people celebrate Christmas even though they don’t go along with the core meaning of the celebration?
If there is a lack of belief in Christmas then there must be doubt about Easter.
Over the past 2,000 years Jesus has been the centre of the Christian faith.
If we celebrate these occasions then we should believe that these events happened.
Many will say that Christmas is for children. Let us dispel that myth.
Jesus came down at Christmas to save humankind. That means all ages, sexes, colours and creeds.
So let us enjoy Christmas and its true meaning for what it is and be happy that Jesus is waiting to come into our lives whenever we make him welcome, even in this century.
