My word, using uplift as a verb for transforming our town gives the game away! People paid too much money to come up with daft ideas.
Less parking makes any shopping area less attractive, a 12-year-old could tell you that. And removal of public lavatories is almost as laughable.
How many ladies, or small children enjoy a shopping trip knowing that they can’t have a wee when they want one?
As for the so called modern facilities, would these be pay to use? Would they be unisex? Would they be small and enclose the visitor, who must constantly worry that they may automatically flush?
No, you can’t beat a proper convenience, plenty of space, easy access for prams, the disabled, etc, and separate facilities for ladies and gents.
I hope the council will see sense. Spalding is cute, and has lots of interesting shops, change is inevitable, but let’s try to make it for the better.
