LETTER: Privileged to receive award

On Wednesday, November 27, I had the privilege of attending the South Holland District Council full council meeting, where I was presented with a badge recognising my service as chairman of the council.
It was an honour to receive this award, and I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank South Holland District Council, its councillors, and the chairman for this recognition.
Reflecting on my time as vice-chairman and chairman, which spanned four years, two key moments stand out as defining highlights of my chairmanship.
First, I had the privilege of chairing the WWII Committee, which successfully raised £100,000 to construct a monument in Ayscoughfee to honour the fallen of World War II.
While the historic Lutyens Memorial in Ayscoughfee had long stood as a tribute to the WWI fallen, there was a strong call from veterans and the Royal Naval Association for a dedicated WWII memorial.
Their voices were clear, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the project come to life – a testament to our community’s commitment to remembrance.
The second unforgettable moment was welcoming His Royal Highness, the Duke of Kent, to Spalding.
His visit marked the dedication of our WWII monument, and it was a truly momentous occasion.
As a staunch royalist, I was deeply honoured to accompany His Royal Highness and showcase our town’s pride and respect for those who served.
The sight of South Holland turning out in numbers to welcome our royal visitor remains a cherished memory that I will carry with me forever.
To be recognised for my role in these milestones, and for my service overall, is incredibly meaningful.
Thank you once again to South Holland District Council and all those who supported me during my time as chairman.
It was an honour to serve this wonderful community.
