LETTER: Please use our attractive public spaces in Holbeach with respect

The summer brings us all outdoors and Holbeach is blessed with some attractive public spaces.

They are expensive to maintain and unfortunately with the sunshine comes the usual crop of problems in our parks.
Please feel free to picnic in them but can I please ask people not take in alcohol or use barbecues – they damage the grass and the hot ashes are difficult to dispose of.

It will also save money and keep our spaces attractive if people take their rubbish home or place it in the bins provided.
The above photo of such an anti-social act illustrates the damage.

The parks are for everyone. They’re the town’s front gardens and the venue for several important social events, so please use them with respect.

The same applies to the public conveniences.
Those in Carter’s Park were closed for several days recently due to the ghastly mess someone left.
We do not employ toilet cleaners and this last incident was nearly beyond the park staff.

Should it be necessary to bring in cleaning contractors, the small budget, which comes from residents’ pockets, will be quickly exhausted and the result could be that the facility remains closed for long periods.

We would like to encourage greater use of the parks and playing fields and it’s sad to be unable to do so because a very few selfish individuals push up maintenance costs and prevent us from developing them. Thank you.
