LETTER: Normal refuse collections resumed

I was initially very confused by Delia Williams’ letter regarding refuse and recycling collections.

For the last couple of years, the district council has collected refuse and recycling on all Bank Holidays, apart from over the Christmas and New Year periods. This means that those wards that were not receiving collections on Bank Holiday Mondays, such as Deeping St Nicholas, no longer miss out.

However, this year, because Christmas Day fell on a Friday, we took the opportunity to give our hard working collection crews a rare four-day break, by also not collecting on the following Monday.

I’m sorry if Delia Williams believed that this was somehow the “Ghost of Collections Past” returned to haunt her. This is not the case and normal service will be restored for the rest of the year, so there’s no need for any sort of rotation.

The next time Christmas Day falls on a Friday is 2020 and then 2026 and who knows what refuse and recycling collections services will look like by then?
