LETTER: Make your opinions count

I was recently shocked by the bitterness of another letter promoting a harsh political standpoint attacking one of the most fundamental councillors currently on the council.

This attack was – at least on this particular week – aimed at Malcolm Chandler.

I would advise anybody that cares about local democracy to think back on the countless instances of overwhelming community care provided by Coun Chandler and consider the alternative motives behind making attacks on local people in the run up to an election.

This sort of consideration was once rare as I am not traditionally a Conservative. Nevertheless, Malcolm is a Conservative I would vote for.

In response to Mr Hutchinson’s letter, claiming that (among other things) Malcolm has views that differ from John Hayes on licensing and also claiming he rivals Alistair Campbell, I am unsure of just where to start.

These dangerously ill-informed statements are no good for local democracy and no good for our district, due to the goal being to tarnish Coun Chandler’s hard-earned reputation.

If you are like me and get frustrated by these cynical political ramblings then please let me be brief, Mr Hutchinson is trying to take us for fools and (for the sake of making our vote count) we should do our best in this election to make our own opinions.
