LETTER: Littering is lazy and ignorant

The empty alcohol cans and general rubbish along the river in Spalding is getting worse.
There are plenty of bins everywhere. Discarding masks and cans and cigarettes etc that have been in/on your face is the height of selfishness and dangerous during this pandemic.
Why aren’t there any patrols along the river bank?
It’s ruining what could be a beautiful spot for people to enjoy in these times and effectively making it off limits to those with young children and people who don’t want to walk their dogs through broken glass.
It can’t be hard to figure out who is doing it and ask them politely to use the bins or take their own saliva-covered rubbish home so someone else doesn’t have to pick it up.
It’s a shame this beautiful area is being ruined by a few.
It’s just an easy fix and would make a big difference to the look and feel and safety of the area.
It’s probably only a few people doing it but it’s relentless and I am fed up with seeing it and having to put on gloves to pick up cans from the path and road side.
People need to be reminded and then fined if they can’t dispose of their own rubbish and DNA.
With the amount of litter bins it is completely unnecessary, ignorant, selfish and lazy.
