It is a bit rich for contributors on these pages to promote the anti-Brexit views of George Soros, while criticizing other financial luminaries who take a different view.
George made a fortune betting against this country during the 1992 currency crisis, but then he wasn’t born here.
He certainly takes the EU line that if people don’t vote the approved way, they must vote again until they do.
We even have a new word “populist” to explain a view expressed by ordinary people in a democratic vote, that doesn’t coincide with the prevailing establishment opinion.
It is a sneering term that implies the 72 per cent of people that voted “out” in this area need to be educated or re-educated to see the light, where, for example, the BBC would be the source of illumination.
I’m not sure listing those that supported one side or the other in the Brexit debate gets us very far.
For every Kate Hoey (respected Labour MP, Leave supporter), we have a Nick Clegg. Of course Kate, unlike Clegg or “the Kinnocks” is not on a fat EU pension.
The general public are not fools and not swayed by the words of some dignitary.
They do, however, want an explanation to the following.
Mass immigration has brought great social upheaval to many areas of this country.
They are told that this is worth it because of the economic benefits.
However the national debt has rocketed and there is an obvious shortage of money to repair roads, provide adequate policing, fund the NHS etc.
Add in wage stagnation and job insecurity and you get an idea as to why people, in their droves, rejected the propaganda of the political class and the establishment in general.
A sad little campaign has started in the East Midlands to undermine the result of the referendum.
To get anywhere the above issues need to be addressed and it is simply not good enough to put up a “if Hitler was alive he would have been in favour of Brexit” type of childish response.
