The Rotary Club of Spalding and Welland are to establish a community awareness project to help further interest in the regeneration of Spalding Town and District and to help bring back visitors to the area with the help of local businesses and the community.
As the same time the event could raise money for local charities through our Two Lips Fund.
Our symbol is to be the scarecrow which is representative of our rural community here in South Holland and is popular with the young and old alike.
The ‘crows’ have a clean image, are cheap to construct or purchase on the internet.
It is hoped that the community, businesses, etc will support this new initiative and help make it an annual event.
During the week, July 13 to 17, the town will be visited by the Britain in Bloom judges and we hope for a wide display of scarecrows to support the occasion.
Everyone is invited, free of charge, to enter their exhibit.
We look forward to window displays with charities, churches, clubs, parents and children, and all interested parties making it a special day.
On Sunday, July 26, at Ayscoughfee Gardens, a promenade of scarecrows will be held to enable all entrants, again free of charge, to enter into the fun by bringing along their ‘crows’. A competition will take place to select the most outstanding King or Queen Scarecrow.
