LETTER: I’m rarely called a hypocrite

It will, no doubt, come as a surprise to some readers – in particular those with letters published in this paper’s edition from October 9 – that I don’t have any issue at all with the community of Sutton Bridge opposing the asphalt plant that has been proposed to their area.
As it happens, I both admire and applaud their efforts as a local community, fighting for what they believe is best for their community, is absolutely the right thing for them to do and I wish them well.
My letter from October 2 was critical of our MP, not the residents of Sutton Bridge. I am critical of an MP – the person we elected to represent the constituency, with we should hope an aim to work to improve things for the constituency and the nation as a whole – instead working in the interests of less than five per cent of the population of South Holland and the Deepings, on a matter that ought help 100 per cent of its population in some capacity.
I also happen to live overlooking an industrial area in Spalding. I am familiar with the light, sound and traffic woes that come with industrialisation near residential areas. If they can find a spare bit of land nearby and want to place an asphalt plant on it, by all means let them.
Some people might call me “arrogant”, but I am very rarely called a hypocrite.
