LETTER: I’m happy with Hayes to be our MP – this time

Please may I say a personal thank you to everyone who voted UKIP in the county elections.

I’m sorry we lost but national matters trumped local ones all over the country, as is often the case. I do ask that those in power remember that my party still represents a sizeable proportion of residents in our district, far more than Labour, LibDems or anyone else.

I congratulate Nick Worth and regret that the campaign was, at times, a little personal – a lot was at stake and it was his duty and mine to do our best for those who support us. We can, and I’m sure will, put the election behind us now and work together towards forging a brighter future for our town.
I don’t promise to agree with everything you propose Nick but do look forward to working with you and will not stand in the way of anything that could possibly help our community.
I hope this attitude of co-operation is demonstrated, at a national level, by our decision not to campaign locally in the General Election, a matter of country before party for us.

This was not due to lack of funds, a local candidate or the results of the county elections. We have only fielded a very brave “democracy” candidate as a compromise, at the request of our HQ and local members.

Unlike some of my fellow UKIP chairmen, I do not have to ask people to vote Tory. Here they will win very easily and since I believe John Hayes will continue to fight for a proper Brexit, I’m happy with that. This time.

Coun Paul Foyster
Chairman, UKIP South Holland and The Deepings branch
