LETTER: How many European shops?

Crikey, how many more European shops is Spalding going to have?

Now The Station Gates is being turned into one, with one already next door. These shops are opening every week.

Just along Winsover Road and Station Street their are six open and proposed that I can think of.

Plus many others in and around town, all have alcohol licences which seems to be their main source of income, as all you ever see is foreigners with bags of alcohol when they walk past you and those ugly posters covering the windows hiding what they are supposed to be selling making the town look trashy.

It appears the council is not bothered what, who or how many shops selling the same goods open as long as the building is not empty and it is getting an income from it.

In the past it has been said immigrants living in Spalding are only a very small percentage of the population here, so why do we need such a large number of European shops? Surely these shopowners cannot be making a living, unless something untoward is going on that Spalding officials are turning a blind eye to.

I’m sure I am not alone in thinking this but probably the only one to have the courage to say so.

An explanation is needed by the powers that be to the residents of Spalding as to why we are having this explosion of European shops.

What we need now in Spalding is entertainment venues, restaurants etc.
