Matthew Mahabadi (Letters, April 16) fails to demonstrate any in-depth knowledge of local issues, nor show how he’s contributed to the benefit of local causes.
And, as we’ve seen so little of him, perhaps Mr Mahabadi would explain how campaigning in Lincoln for another parliamentary candidate serves to raise his profile amongst those who he claims to wish to represent here in South Holland and the Deepings?
After Labour’s dreadful legacy – extravagant waste, massive debts and a financial crisis – we must continue the great progress made in rebuilding our economy since 2010. Thanks to the Conservatives’ long-term plan, our economy grew by 2.8 per cent last year – faster than any other major economy.
Unemployment is falling fast: there are now two million more people in work having the security of a good job and a regular pay packet. We’ve tackled the abuse of benefits, whilst increasing the state pension for five years running. We’re helping more first-time home buyers and crime has fallen by over a fifth – to its lowest level on record.
As the recent budget shows, we’re cutting tax and rewarding hard work. Our long-term plan is to build a welfare system that rewards work; an education system that gives young people the skills they need to get on in life; and an immigration system that puts the British people first. We will renegotiate Britain’s relationship with the EU and only the Conservatives will give voters the final say in a straightforward in/out referendum by the end of 2017.
Voting for any party other than the Conservatives risks the frightening prospect of Ed Miliband becoming Prime Minister and, worse still, heading a government propped up by Scottish Nationalists intent on marginalising English people’s interests.
Letting Ed Miliband enter Number 10 by the back door only to be held to ransom by the Scottish Nationalists, would allow him to dice with our nuclear deterrent and gamble with our future security. Why take the risk?
Only the Conservatives promise strong leadership, a clear economic plan and a pathway to a secure, prosperous future; safeguarding the ongoing rise in prosperity, continuing to cut income tax and rewarding hard work.
When it comes to choosing the person we want as our voice in Parliament, of the candidates standing here in South Holland and the Deepings, only John Hayes lives locally and has proved time and time again that he works and cares for us.
Matthew Mahabadi says he respects John Hayes and so he should, because there has been no greater local champion for us all.
