LETTER: Civic Reception was one of the best

It had been in the pipeline for weeks and everyone was looking forward to the Chairman and Lady of South Holland District Council, Coun Francis Biggadike and wife Freda’s, civic reception and the occasion did not disappoint.

Because I had been given certain civic duties to carry out, we arrived at the South Holland Centre in Spalding in good time. We had a good look round the dining area and it looked beautiful. You soon realise how much work has gone into making the room look so special.

We then looked at the table plan which read like a “who’s who” with over 120 people attending. Guests included the recent Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, the High Sheriff of Lincolnshire, many mayors and mayoresses, chairmen and vice chairmen, two members of the House of Lords and our MP John Hayes.

Guests started to arrive and I did my best to welcome everyone, pointing out the cloakroom and the seating plan. Francis and Freda greeted everyone before they entered the dining area.

As the evening passed we were invited to make a donation to the Chairman’s charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, by placing donations in envelopes provided.

Francis then addressed everyone and the response on behalf of the guests was given by Tony Worth.

Since being elected vice chairman in May 2015, I have attended many civic receptions but this was right up there with the best.

Congratulations Francis and Freda for a job well done.

Last, but by no means least, I would like to give special thanks to the officers, staff and the catering company for all their hard work in making this Civic Reception a very special one for Francis and Freda.

Rodney Grocock
Vice chairman
South Holland District Council
