Much is being made of the new Western Bypass but it seems that (perhaps intentionally) little attempt is being made to talk to the people who are going to be most affected. The Bourne Road fiasco comes to mind.
My concern is at the other end. At the junction of Blue Gowt Road and Blue Gowt Lane is the footpath that leads to the bridge over Vernatts Drain and down Two Plank Lane joining Woolram Wygate, this is possibly the busiest footpath in Spalding.
This path provides a safe corridor for children from Pinchbeck to Spalding on their way to and from school and is in almost constant use by walkers of all persuasions and inclinations.
My question is very simple: what is going to happen to our footpath and safe corridor when this concrete juggernaut bears down upon us? Are we all, children, adults, cyclists, walkers and others who prefer slow progression now be expected to travel from Pinchbeck to Spalding along the main Pinchbeck Road, far further and more dangerous and fume laden?
Much is made of cycling and walking for health, we have a naturally occurring and much used cyclepath/footpath that seems to be on the verge of extinction in the name of very dubious progress.
Maybe one of our esteemed portfolio holders could give us all some reassurance on this specific point.
