LETTER: Blame the government, not police

I have seen many complaining about problems that the police used to deal with. I too am a stickler for the law and set in my ways.

I get annoyed when I see things happening that you just wish the police would appear and catch these people in the act.

But the reality is the police are inundated with work and have to prioritise.

If what TV programmes show is true, they now spend most of their time dealing with domestics and people with mental health issues.

It seems speeding, cyclists, people using mobiles while driving, cars fitted with custom blacked out lights and registration plates not legal on UK streets, to name but a few, aren’t high on their list.

It’s no fault of the police.

Blame the government for enforcing ridiculous cuts greatly reducing our police force to an unrealistic number of officers to deal with a growing population.

The numbers don’t add up but those in government seem to have forgotten how to count and apply balance.

God help us in the future as it looks like it is only going to get worse.
