An uninsured and unsupervised learner driver was caught at three times the alcohol limit.
Police spotted a Peugeot come to a stop about one metre over the line at the junction of Park Road and Winsover Road, magistrates in Boston were told on Wednesday.
Driver and sole occupant Mihai Brehuescu, 33, was pulled over at about 7.20pm on April 23.
“He smelt strongly of intoxicants, his speech was slurred and his eyes were glazed,” said prosecutor Fiona McClelland.
Brehuescu was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.
In custody he blew 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath; the legal limit is 35.
“Police discovered the defendant was only a provisional licence holder. There was no supervision in the vehicle so he was also without any valid insurance,” added Miss McClelland.
Brehuescu pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and having no insurance.
He had no previous convictions, said solicitor Phillipa Chatterton in mitigation.
She told the court that Brehuescu drank far more than he normally would after learning that his brother had sold an item of “very sentimental” value.
“He remembered he owed cash to a friend so was going to the cashpoint to get that,” she added.
Brehuescu, of Britannia Gardens, Spalding, was banned for 28 months, which can be reduced with a drink-driver rehabilitation course.
He was also fined £666 and ordered to pay £266 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
There were no separate penalties for the licence and insurance offences.
