The Spalding and South Holland Voice six-a-side League averaged 4.5 goals a game on an explosive evening of action on Monday night.
Division One got under way with a thrilling game on pitch two at Surfleet’s Glen Park, aka ‘The Arena of Death’, as Ultra D and Pinchbeck United played out a sizzling 2-2 draw.
Having held the lead, Ultra D will be disappointed to have let the winning position slip and allow Pinchbeck to rack up their second draw in three games.
Parry was given the man of the match award by referee Richard Wilde in a good-spirited and pacey game that saw both sides show plenty of attacking flair and movement.
Posh Old Boys, who performed miracles against last season’s Division One champions in their last outing, couldn’t repeat the feat against last season’s runners-up Polishborough. The Poles won 5-1 and now sit top with an incredible goal difference of 15 after just three matches.
They set the pace early in the last term and will hope to carry on the good form this time around. Goldyn was given MOTM for this game.
Game three saw Old Boy Coaches carry on their tough start to the campaign with a 2-0 drubbing by Notinmymums Forest.
Old Boys now sit in the relegation zone as they struggle to cope with adjustment to life in the top flight. Forest, meanwhile, keep up the pressure at the top and their pass-and-move style of play will serve them well against the majority of teams. Old Boys keeper Kyle Walker was in great form and served up a MOTM performance.
The next game saw EPH Allstars fail to attend their planned tie against Wet Dream Team. Having failed to give appropriate notice, they are recorded a 5-0 defeat and fined one week’s match fee.
Second then took on third as Baltic faced up to Univeg in a game that was expected to be tight. That wasn’t the case, though, as Baltic dominated the game and eased to a 4-0 win. Andris Bunbuls was in great form and securing a MOTM award for Baltic.
Univeg played some of the game with five men following another sin-bin incident. The win keeps unbeaten Baltic nestled in second place.
The final Division One match of the night saw reigning champions Brennans Sports take on You’ve Got No Fans. The YGNF lads are desperate for their first points and did put on a decent show, but couldn’t stop the juggernaut of Brennans who ran out 2-0 winners.
Matt Cannon was in amazing form and was a shoe-in for MOTM.
The second tier of the league got under way with an engrossing, topsy-turvy tie as Borrussia Teeth ran out 2-0 winners against Tekkerslovakia.
The Tekkers net was unbeaten until this game, but with the return of captain-elect Matt O’Brien, Borrussia kick-started their season with their first points. O’Brien was given MOTM for a truly wonderful performance as he linked up the defensive and attacking movements of play.
Sarah’s Boys then made light work of Goaldiggers as they ran out 5-1 winners.
A Joe Martin hat-trick and MOTM performance certainly made the difference.
Cameron Walker was also on form as Sarah’s Boys hit their high-gears.
The next game saw Simple FC keep up their 100 per cent start to the campaign with a 5-0 thumping of Balotellitubbies.
The Balo boys, complete with new kit, never really managed to get a foothold in the game as Dominic Mason’s team dominated possession from the off.
The game was a great advert for the league and was played in a brilliant spirit, with Simple’s Leigh Boekestyn named MOTM.
Next on the pitch were new boys The TBME, who played out a classic with previously winless Mail Carters before going down 4-3 with a goal from the last kick of the game.
The TBME started poorly and found themselves 2-0 down within the first five minutes. However, a slowing down of possession and time on the ball saw them go into half time level at 2-2.
TBME then conceded a penalty with just five minutes to go, which was coolly slotted home by the Carters.
The TBME managed to draw level again, only to concede with the final kick of the game.
Dave Gayler put in a fine showing on the wing for Carters and picked up the MOTM prize.
The penultimate match saw BK’s Athletic keep up the pressure at the top and maintain their unbeaten start following a 6-1 thumping of basement boys Le Saux Solid Crew.
The pace, stamina and all-round talent of the BK’s lads was too much for the Le Saux lads to handle.
The final match of the division was a comfortable run-out for Evolution, who put on a very impressive show to beat Dynamo Kiev 4-0.
The win keeps Evolution top and sends out the message that they are the pacesetters.
Michal was given his second man of the match of the season for the leaders.
TEAM FOCUS: SIMPLE FC
CAPTAIN: Dominic Mason
KEY MAN: Leigh Boekestyn
THE VERDICT: After suffering the heart-break of relegation on the final day of last season, Simple FC have hit the ground running this term. It’s a case of new kits, same team, new outlook as they continue with their promotion push. With Leigh Boekestyn on form the sky is the limit for Simple, as they look to push Evolution to the wire as early pacesetters in the second division.
After Monday’s very impressive win against Balotellitubbies, the Simple Lads now have just one focus for the season – promotion.
Skipper Dominic Mason said: “It feels good this season. We are playing settled football and using the bigger pitches to our advantage. We are now a regular, solid squad who are finding their feet in a tough and competitive division.”
