Leaders sunk by cool Forbes

A week off paid dividends for Gosberton in the Spalding & District Billiards League. They followed up their free week by stunning leaders Holbeach A with a 4-3 victory to create some breathing space at the foot of the table.
Ben Harding (r20) was the first frame winner for Holbeach but, despite breaks of 30, 28, 27 and three 20s, Mick Cooper (o200) lost to Shane White (o40), who had breaks of 32, 28, 27 and 25 in a high-scoring encounter. Des Forbes (r50) held his nerve in the deciding frame to grab victory for Gosberton, although it was the visitors who took the aggregate bonus point by a 553-544 margin.
As the season reaches its halfway mark, it is all to play for with Consti B narrowing the gap at the top to a single point after a 5-2 win against Pyramid B. Mick Johnson (o150) was the star, scoring breaks of 45, 43, 36, 29 and 20 on his way to winning the deciding frame. Maurice Phillipson (r70) put the visiting team in front but Neil Burton (r60) hit a break of 26 to level the match.
Bourne SC sit third, three points off the leaders, thanks to a 5-2 success at Donington. Elliott Gaunt (r30) struck 23 and 20 in his opening-frame win and Lester Gaunt (r20) made it 2-0 before Ben Wrigglesworth (scr) pulled one back thanks to breaks of 27 and 25.
Pyramid A are a point further back in fourth place after a 5-2 win of their own against Consti A. Alan Hansard (r70) put the visitors ahead but Reegan Cooke-Holmes (r80) and John Twell (r70) hit back for the win. It leaves Consti A hoping for a second half recovery following the loss of all eight matches in the first half of their campaign.
