Late goals frustrate Tigers

Two late goals left Holbeach United frustrated after they let slip a three-goal half-time lead in their Eastern Counties League Division One North clash with Gorleston Reserves.

The Tigers made a lightning start with Alex Greenfield smashing the ball home at the near post to put them ahead. Denis Coelho then capitalised on a home attack breaking down when he went up the other end to double the advantage. He struck again to make it 3-0 and the points looked secure.

However, the introduction of substitute Maxwell Ibenne proved decisive as the hosts stormed back. He set up a move for Tyler Malley to pull one back and then with the game entering its closing stages, scored himself to make it 3-2. It was all square in the 87th minute when Sam Ellis struck from a corner.

In the Pete Cousins Memorial Cup at Carter’s Park last Wednesday, Boston United u23s emerged victorious. Pat Kacirek scored for Holbeach in the 2-1 defeat.

Tigers v Gorleston: Sellars, Kacirek, Roberts, Goult, Barsby, Nicholson, Greenfield, Hyde, Hamilton, Coelho, J Williams. Subs: Wilkshire, Szablowski, Hall, Garner. Attendance: 22.
