It was not a memorable day for Long Sutton in the East League on Saturday.
The men’s first team were beaten 11-2 at Cambridge City Seconds in Division One North, while the third’s crashed 10-2 at Newmarket Thirds in Division Five North West.
The second team did record a 5-0 win against Cambridge City Fourths in Division Three North West, but that was by default after the visitors scratched.
The first-team match started at a furious pace and a slick move put the visitors one up, quickly followed by another.
Sutton then had their best spell of the game and Josh Baker reduced the arrears.
The home team piled on the pressure, which led to Baker receiving a yellow card, and the hosts rattled in four more goals before half-time. The second half was one way traffic as the home team added a further five goals to complete an impressive victory. Baker added a late consolation goal.
However, Sutton never gave up and were simply beaten by a better team.
They will need to regroup for Saturday’s local derby against Spalding and hope that some of their injured players will be fit to play.
Player of the match James Collingwood-Smith and Daniel Plant got a goal in each half of the third team’s defeat at Newmarket.
Tania White earned the player of the match award for Long Sutton Ladies’ first team in Women’s Division Three North West after a 1-0 win over Bourne Deeping.
In Division Five North West, the second team were beaten 6-2 at home by Cambridge City Sevenths.
