Ladies’ hockey round-up: Timby and Holland steer Spalding Poachers to victory, party time for Sutton 2nd

Spalding Poachers 1st returned to action in East Women’s Hockey League Division 2NW with a fine 2-1 triumph over Pelicans 1st on Saturday.

A penalty strike from Karen Timby and Ellie Holland’s effort put the Poachers 2-0 up, but Pelicans improved after the break and pulled one back.

In the same division, Long Sutton ladies’ 1st christened the new Peele Leisure Centre pitch with a 2-1 triumph over Bourne Deeping 1st. Jo Bland and Katie Collingwood-Smith scored.

In Division 3NW, Spalding Poachers 2nd suffered a 4-3 loss at City of Peterborough 3rd despite a hat-trick from AJ Bunyan.

Down in Division 4NW (N), Spalding Poachers 3rd were edged out 1-0 at Horncastle ladies’ 1st as they failed to capitalise on a decent showing.

Meanwhile, Long Sutton ladies’ 2nd grabbed their first win of the season as Louise Southgate (2), Imogen Cooper and Lisa Baker netted in a 4-0 victory over Spilsby 1st.
