Knight battles in vain for Pinchbeck

Pinchbeck’s good run came to an end as they lost a low scoring game at home to Stamford Town.

After two wins on the bounce in South Lincs and Border League Division One, they failed to defend a meagre total of 78, slumping to a four wicket loss.

The home side’s total could have been worse but for a knock of 35 from Mike Knight who was the only batsman to reach double figures.

He was one of six victims to fall to Richard Field (6-22 from 10) as Pinchbeck were dismissed having batted for just 28 overs.

With so many overs to get their runs Stamford openers Andy Baker (19) and Bryan Bennett (39) batted tentatively for the visitors for a start as they built the match-winning platform.

Pinchbeck’s Andrew Beeston (4-26) and Knight (2-17 from eight) were able to provide some late wickets but the damage had already been done and Stamford reached their target six wickets down in the 22nd over.
