Kirt’s confidence dashed by Donington Park crash on mixed weekend

Kirt Powell endured something of a testing weekend in his latest Thundersport GB outing at Donington Park.

The Spalding racer looked in fantastic form during testing under the sun, progressing constantly throughout the day with small changes to the suspension by Glyn Pearson.

It was cloudy on the Saturday, before heavy rain began to fall just before qualifying – meaning it was a mad dash to get the wheels changed.

Unfortunately, Powell struggled with the conditions and qualified 25th overall (sixth in class).

However, Powell put that behind him and flew off the line for race one as he moved up to 12th overall and third in his class.

But disaster followed as he lost the front going into Coppice and crashed out.

Sunday saw the rain continue, with Powell having to dust his bike down and go again.

Although he managed finishes of fourth and fifth in his class over the two races, he wasn’t overly happy with his performance and admitted that he struggled with his confidence.
