Kids’ club future hangs on mobile decision

pavilionA village primary school is hoping it will be allowed to keep a mobile classroom it uses for a breakfast and after-school club.

Pinchbeck East Primary School has a bespoke mobile building in its grounds which provides care for pupils before school begins and at the end of the day.

But planning permission for the building, known as the Millennium Pavilion, has expired and Lincolnshire County Council – as the education authority – is applying for it to be extended for a further five years.

South Holland District Council planners are due to make a decision on the application by May 7.

The application states that the county council has a statutory requirement that childcare provision is sufficient to meet the needs of parents in their area.

It says: “The removal of this mobile building would mean that Pinchbeck Kids Club could no longer provide before and after school care for these children and their families at the site and this would affect the provision of childcare in the area.

The kids’ club operates from 7.30am to 9am and from 3.15pm to 6pm during term time and from 7.30am to 6pm during school holidays.

It can cater for 31 children and employs two full-time and six part-time staff.
