Keith inspired by ancestors

A Spalding man has published a book into the history of some of Spalding’s businessmen and women.

Keith Seaton of Belgrave Road has written Mariners and Associated Traders of Spalding.
The 114 pages includes the details he’s researched of 43 mariners and 22 other traders from the town during the late 18th to early 20th centuries.
Its a follow up to Keith, who is a standard bearer for the 2013 book The River Welland, Shipping and Mariners of Spalding.
“My interest is because my great, great grandfather, great grandfather and other relations were mariners,” Keith said. “I was born in Albert Street in 1939 in the area where many of the mariners lived.
“One of the best bits of my research was having a distant cousin in New Zealand and finding the logs books of my great grandads’ cousin.
“It includes stories from his first voyages with my great, great grandfather and later before he married and went to live in NZ.”
Copies of the book can be purchased from Bookmark.
