Judges check out the blooms

On Thursday (July 10} Long Sutton in Bloom gave a literally warm (or even hot) welcome to two judges from East Midlands in Bloom.

Long Sutton was being judged in the East Midlands in Bloom Small Town category, which includes pretty towns like Uppingham and Darley Dale – stiff competition

Jeff and Irene Bates were escorted to various sites by Bloomers Kay Jenkinson and Christine Palacio-White.

Chair of Long Sutton in Bloom Kay said: “The judges seemed impressed with the floral displays, but also with the beautiful parks, sensory garden, owl carving and The Shrubberies Nature Reserve.

“The judges also enjoyed a delightful visit to Rainbow Nursery, maybe the Bloomers for the future.

“The town looked lovely thanks to the support from the parish and district councils, Parkway for the super window display and the library for letting us host our post judging get together.

“This has been a challenging season with the recent extreme weather.

“The results will be announced on September 24, so fingers crossed!”
