Joy at ‘good’ care home

There were tears of joy as a Spalding care home received ‘good’ news following it’s inspection by officials.

Southernwood Care Home on Matmore Gate has been rated ‘good’ overall by Care Quality Commission (CQC) and in every category of being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

It had previously been rated as ‘requires improvement’ overall and in the categories of being Safe and Effective in its previous inspection in 2018.

The home, which can support up to 28 people and also provides care to some living in their own homes, was inspected in October.

A report issued last week praised staff as being “kind and caring” while saying “people were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests”.

It continues: “Effective systems were in place to monitor the quality of care provided.

“The registered manager was proactive in taking action to support people’s safety when we raised concerns with them.”

The care home’s manager Bethany Ward said she shed tears of joy after being told of the inspection rating: “We are all just over the moon.

“The support from the staff, the residents, their families and director has been fantastic and meant that we can improve over the last few years and get to ‘good’ status.

“There’s a lot of hard work and hours that the whole team here has put in to turning the centre around.

“We’re all really proud of the rating we’ve achieved and what we’re doing at the home.”
