The schools may only just be finishing for summer, but more help is needed to bring fantastic festive cheer to Spalding this Christmas.
Despite the weather currently being way too warm for Santa, a call has gone out to help make the town centre sparkle in December.
Organisers are determined not to see a repeat of last year, when activities were criticised for being poorly organised.
But although the budget is there for this year, traders need to step up to the plate and offer help, either by way of sponsorship or in practical terms.
“There will be something this year, we are just waiting for confirmation on exactly what we are spending money on, but it would really help if more people came forward to support it, “ said Coun Jack McLean, who heads the organising group which includes South Holland District Council officers, members, businesses and market traders.
“We are aiming not just to sort out events for this year, but to ensure they are sustainable for the future. It is things like sponsorship which are really important,” said Coun McLean.
But help in practical terms would also be welcome, even if it was on a consultancy basis, he added.
Last year’s Sunday Christmas Market also came in for criticism. The organisers were the Spalding and District Area Chamber of Commerce.
“There will definitely be events this year – but it will be better if more get involved at this stage,” said Coun McLean, who can be contacted by email at: [email protected] or by phone on 07761 098517.
