Jobs threat for Greencore staff

Staff at Greencore have been issued consultation documents as their roles are at risk following the company’s takeover of Bakkavor.

The trading quarter update reported last month shows a 5.4 per cent in revenue growth to £499.8m.

“The executive team and extended leadership team of the combined business has been defined. The group continues to expect to deliver at least £80m in annual cost synergies,” says the report.

As the company changed name effective from late last month, 76 members of staff were already on consultation for potential redundancy.

And the latest round of consultation involves more staff who are having individual talks. The initial consultation was with 76 people who were offered to change grades, which would see altered shift patterns or leave.

The £1.2bn take over sees Greencore, based in Ireland, have a 28,000-strong workforce across the UK and USA.

They will help deliver a billion sandwiches, salads, sushi and other to-go food items.

“Following the end of a strong Q1 and as we begin our centenary year, we reached an important milestone earlier this month with the acquisition of Bakkavor. It’s a great business, and we’ve all been so impressed by the new colleagues we’ve met,” said the report.

A spokesman for the company said that there is currently a group-wide process looking at potential changes to central and functional teams across Greencore.

“Greencore’s acquisition of Bakkavor has brought together two highly complementary businesses a with world class expertise, strong customer partnerships and exceptional people.

“Following the completion of the transaction, we have been consulting with our colleagues on proposed changes to our organisational structure to reflect the needs of our newly-combined business,” he added.
