Jim’s a musical legend

A grandfather who has made a massive musical contribution to South Holland life is the latest nominee for a Pride of South Holland Award.

Jim Bright, who has given 35 years’ continuous and dedicated service to Spalding Marching Ambassadors, has been nominated in the Senior Citizen category by his grandson Connor Sanderson.

He will now go on a shortlist of nominees to go before category sponsors Calthrops Solictors.

In his nomination, Connor said: “My granddad has been involved since the band originally formed in 1980 and was called the Spalding Drum & Trumpet Corps. The band now has 19 members aged ten and upwards.

“After being in the band for many years he is now the band master and is always working hard on new music and drills to keep the band up to date.

“It is a tough job heading a band, but my granddad does a wonderful job keeping it all organised with rehearsals.

“I was very proud of my granddad, in 2012 as he took part, with many others, in the London Olympics Opening Ceremony.

“Locally he has contributed to many events of several years, including the Flower Parade for many years as well as TulipMania, Armed Forces Day and the Christmas Lights Switch On.

“This year the band is celebrating its 35th birthday and he has organised a reunion for past members to come along and celebrate the wonderful musical talents from the past years.”
