Jamie on fire to send Spalding Town 2nd top

Jamie Juckes took a five-wicket haul to propel Spalding Town 2nd to the top of South Lincs and Border League Division One on Saturday.

The pace ace’s figures of 5-10 helped blow host Friskney away for just 38 in 16.3 overs, with Sanj Tott (2-27) also chipping in with a pair of wickets.

Tott’s victims included skipper Rob Grant, who was comfortably Friskney’s top scorer on 21.

Spalding lost youngster Steffen Gostic (8) in their reply, but Chris Klompas (23no) eased them to a nine-wicket victory in the tenth over.

The comprehensive victory leaves Steve Norris’ side 13 points clear of Billingborough 2nd in the standings, although they’ve played a game more.

  •  Premier Division leaders Grantham handed Long Sutton a 60-run defeat on Saturday.

David Whapplington hit 53 for hosts Grantham as they were bowled out for 185 batting first, with James Wright (4-26), Barry Stanway (2-56), Paul Edgeller (2-35) and Jake Burton (2-47) doing the damage with the ball.

Matt Bull made an unbeaten 36 in Sutton’s reply, but Phil Barnes (22) was the only other player to pass 20 and they collapsed to 125 all out.

  • Also in the top flight, Moulton Harrox were handed a 44 run reverse by Boston.

Visitors Boston batted first at Harrox Field on Saturday, making 180-9 in their 45 overs.

Kieran Evans was their top scorer on 44, with Moulton duo Maxwell Cusack (5-50) and Jack Barnett (4-12) unlucky not to bowl their opponents out.

Harry Barnett (32) was the leading Harrox run maker in their reply, but the hosts were bowled out for just 136.

  • Sam Smith hit an unbeaten 51 in vain for Pinchbeck in Division Two on Saturday.

Batting first, Smith’s half-century steered Pinchbeck to 138-8 at Burgh and District.

The hosts knocked that off for the loss of just four wickets, with James Langford (2-36) the pick of the bowlers.
