Jail for Post Office burglar

A man has been jailed for entering a shop in Pinchbeck with intent to steal.

At Lincoln Magistrates’ Court, Jake Boyton (27) of King Street, Market Rasen, was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison after the incident that took place in Mace Post Office at Knight Street, Pinchbeck.

After a short online appeal on January 4, the day after the offence, Boyton was arrested and charged.

The court also ordered him to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £115.

Insp Gareth Boxall of Lincolnshire Police, said the incident occurred on January 3 2018 and a second man was arrested the same day. He has since been released under investigation.

Insp Boxall said: “I want to thank our officers who worked hard to bring him to justice and I want to thank the members of the public who helped with our enquiries.”

This burglary was the latest in a spate in Pinchbeck and the surrounding area.

On December 15, a chip shop was broken into and charity collection tins and pies were stolen.

A police spokesman said: “All possible lines of enquiry were exhausted and unfortunately the crime was undetected.”

Asked whether there was a possible link between this and earlier attempted domestic property break-ins, a spokesman said officers were keeping an open mind.
