JAG motor to Guardian glory as Sasha seals Bowl win

The final night scheduled night for the Spalding and District League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) saw two more titles decided and the Division One sides completing their programme.

However, the Division Two title and the Marylands Cup are still to be resolved. It was hoped that those outstanding fixtures were sorted last night (Wednesday).

In Division One, champions Bladerunners needed two games to conclude their final match – which was unfinished.

They duly converted their 2-1 lead into a 3-2 win.

Tomascz Dobrzyn had already ended the season unbeaten in regular play and helped add the doubles for the winning point.

Their opponents, One From The Past, also had to complete their season and rounded off in fine style against Haz Beans with a 5-0 victory. Sasha Martin and Dave Moore inflicted the damage.

At the other end of the table, JAG and Outsiders also had a match to finish.

With the latter already in a winning position, personal pride was all that mattered and JAG took that for a final result of 2-3.

Elsewhere, Mine’s A Pint and A Win For A Curry ended their Division Two season with a victory for the former.

Jeremy Hitcham scored a double in their 4-1 victory, while Phil Knowles took Curry’s point.

In the final of the Roy Gibson Memorial Rose Bowl Martin (starting on 0) faced Stewart Duffill (21).

Yet again the handicapping proved close, with the match going to the third. Martin eventually won 30-31, 31-28, 31-29.

Meanwhile, JAG’s James Gibson and Reece Kerry were contesting the Guardian Cup final against the Casey’s Pingers pair of James Coote and Mick Nurse.

Unsurprisingly, the Division One pair won all four ends for a total of 132, but being aware that a large handicap was likely, held their opponents to just 47.

Sure enough, the handicapper gave 69, but their plan worked and JAG won by 132-116.

Although there are still matches to complete from this week, the league’s summer sessions now begin. All visitors are welcome to come and try the sport and receive some instruction – or have a go with the robot – for just £3 for the night.

The league meets on Wednesday nights at the Castle Sports Complex.
