Internet problems after cabinet fire

A group of Spalding residents are still without internet some six weeks after a car hit a communications cabinet and burst into flame in Little London.

Despite being told by his provider, Vodafone, that he would be reconnected on Friday – for five weeks running – David Brennon remains unable to use his home phone or computer.
“It went off when the cabinet was damaged and I’ve been told every week that it will be ‘on Friday,’” he said.
A number of residents in the area have been affected by the issue.
Mr Brennon said he has been using his bank’s free wi-fi to catch up with emails he has missed.
“I had standard corporate responses when I finally spoke to someone. I spoke to the men working on the cabinet and they were really nice,” said Mr Brennon.
Another resident, David Jackson, has also been without any internet for six weeks and has also run out of patience with the situation.
The cabinet and infrastucture belongs to Openreach and the company said it has been working to restore connections.
“We know how frustrating this is for people living nearby, but we’re working as quickly and safely as we can,” said a spokesman.
“A significant bulk of the work has been completed and we’re doing everything we can to get people reconnected.
“It is a time-consuming and really complex repair due to the nature of the damage.”
