Indecent images of children made by former pillar of Crowland community

A former pillar of the community in Crowland has admitted making almost 600 indecent images of children.

Peter Bird was on Crowland Parish Council until recently and stood for UKIP in the 2015 South Holland District Council elections, polling 903 votes in the Crowland and Deeping St Nicholas ward.

Appearing before Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (April 27), he pleaded guilty to making:

  • 52 Level A images between January 6, 2015 and October 26, 2016
  • 109 Level B images between May 8, 2013 and October 26, 2016
  • 432 Level C images between October 3, 2013 and May 31, 2016

Level A images are the most serious type.

Bird (72), who now lives in Surrey, was committed to crown court for sentencing on a date to be fixed.

He is on bail with the condition that he does not have any unsupervised contact with a child under 16.
