Inaugural award for society volunteer

A Pinchbeck woman has been presented with an award for her work as a volunteer conservation lead and training co-ordinator.

Mary Evans was given the inaugural Marsh Award from the Institute of Conservation and the Marsh Charitable Trust for her work with the Gentleman’s Society.
Her volunteer role is very different from that of her paid position as the conservation assistant for the eight Bronze Age boats at Flag Fen Archaeology Park, Peterborough.
She first volunteered at the SGS during the second year of her degree at Lincoln and helped train a team of volunteers to check, clean, stabilise and pack artefacts.
Volunteers, aged from 16 to 90, now number nearly 30 from diverse backgrounds and with different skills and interests.
