In-form Long Sutton ace Cooper wins Norfolk billiards title

Confident cueman Mick Cooper continued his dominant form of the billiards scene by becoming the Norfolk Handicap champion.

Spalding and District Snooker and Billiards League ace Cooper was in high spirits ahead of the January 3 event at the Maltings Q Club after enjoying a stunning end to 2015.

And that red-hot spell on the baize never looked like ending at the King’s Lynn venue as the 57-year-old powered his way to more glory.

Long Sutton-based Cooper beat Norwich’s Nathan Mann 149-19 in a final which was refereed by tournament director Steve Tuck – who presented the silverware to the Lincolnshire hot-shot.

The champion’s handicap was minus 70 while the runner-up was playing off minus 140 on the day.

Cooper has now won the first four events on Norfolk’s 2015/16 calendar.

He had tasted success in the Invitation Cup, Grand Masters and County Team with West Acre prior to the weekend’s competition in Lynn.

Cooper, who also plays for Long Sutton in the Spalding League, is the current West Norfolk Open and Handicap champion.

He won those titles at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.
