This mocked-up picture shows a proposed sculpture for Crowland.
The piece will be inspired by Crowland’s heritage, drawing particularly on the St Guthlac Rolls, and is due to be installed on the green between Thorney Road and South Street in November.
Richard Janes, a professional sculptor who takes his inspiration from local environments and places, has been commissioned by community-based arts programme Transported, in partnership with Crowland Public Art Steering Group.
Group chairman John Parnell said: “Working with Transported is opening up our ideas and we look forward to giving the town a boost through this exciting project.”
This commission is part of Transported’s “On Your Doorstep” strand which brings public artworks to unexpected places nominated by members of the local community. There is an ambition for this work to become the start of a public art trail inspired by the rich heritage of Crowland.
Elizabeth Bergeron, Transported Arts Engagement Worker, said: “This first commission is an exciting opportunity to cause real impact in the town – for the enjoyment of local residents and tourists coming to visit.”
There is an opportunity to meet the man commissioned for Spalding’s public artwork at the South Holland Centre on Tuesday (7pm).
